Today at church I had an enounter with Cynthia and her kids, Phoebe and Jesse. While my older siblings, Heather and Harrison, were involved at the UCLA Bible study, I remember that Cynthia was one of their good friends. I don't think I ever met her back then. For a few years, now, I've known from Heather and Harrison that Cynthia and her husband are raising their kids in Kansas. However, in the past year or so I have surprisingly gotten to know them very well...very well indeed. Heather has a link to Cynthia's xanga on her blog, and it didn't take me long to figure out that its one of the most entertaining blogs on the internet, especially because her kids are so cute! I feel like I know her and her kids without having ever met them....but I do have to admit that I agree with all those people who frequently write comments on her blog like, "I want to meet Phoebe!"
Today at church as my family was walking from the main service to Crossroads, my eyes settled on a bubbly, bouncy, brown-eyed little girl standing with her mom. I thought to myself, "There's Phoebe. Such a cutey." Then I rethought to myself, "There's Phoebe? In California?" Then I remembered reading on their xanga that they WERE in California this week! My whole family seemed to register at the same time that they were actually at our church, and we immediately joined the crowd that was already surrounding them. It was like a reunion. I knew them, Cynthia knew me from MY blog, and Phoebe looked like she felt she were old friends with everyone. Even Jesse was giving big smiles all around.
I can't tell you how WEIRD it was to be with them. I really felt the same sensation that I do when I'm standing with a celebrity like Steve Carrell...the only reason I knew these kids and Cynthia was through the internet, and being with them in person felt peculiarly natural because they were JUST the same as on the blog! (Just like I said "John Krasinksi was JUST like JIM!")
It was good to see you, Cynthia! :)
