Last Saturday night my Bible study did something called "Dinner for Eight," where all the people who signed up were divided into randomn groups of eight. Each group then had a small dinner party, the purpose being to get to know the other seven people in your group. I was assigned to the home of Aaron and Angie Kay, a cute newlywed couple (they were married on December 30). I've known who Aaron and Angie were, but I've never really gotten to know them, so I was excited to find out I was going to their home. Another cool couple in our group were Kenny and Jenny Eliazer. They're new to the study, and to California, in fact. They're here so that Kenny can start seminary in the fall. The other two people in my group were people that I had already known, Jill Johns and Chris Schroeder.
Aaron and Angie decided that the theme to our night together would be the Italian Mafia, and they told everyone to dress up! Very fun.Angie cooked some mean chicken parmesan and spaghetti...oh man...I'm making myself crave it again. And she assigned me to bring a dessert, so I decided that a rich, extravagent Italian mafia member might like a rich tiramisu after dinner.
I got the recipe for this tiramisu from Rachael Ray. Yep, I've pretty much learned to always trust her. Jenny also brought some strawberry shortcake desserts. Our tastebuds had a really great time that night.
After dinner and dessert we started playing games. The original plan was to dive right into Mafia, but we got distracted by Apples to Apples and had to play several rounds of that. When we finally started playing Mafia, we got so hooked on it that before we knew it, someone glanced at the clock and exclaimed that it was already 11:40 pm! Rather than going home, however, we all decided on one more round. One of the funniest things that went on during that round was during Chris's turn to narrate. When Chris first had the townspeople wake up, he said, "Alas, this morning, the townspeople are mourning their loss. A piece of chicken parmesan is wrapped in fishes, symbolizing that Angie now sleeps with the fishes." We laughed so hard because it was so CRAZY!
Here's our group at midnight, right before we all called it a night.
